We have successfully concluded the first workshop of our “Enhancing Digital Empathy Skills of Youth” (Connect-Em) project, conducted by Batman Academic and Social Activities Association (BASAD) at Siirt University between November 26-29, 2024. In this initial workshop of our project, supported by the European Union Erasmus+ KA154 Youth Participation program, we brought together 30 young participants from different regions of Turkey. During the four-day workshop, we explored the empathic dimension of the digital world with our young participants.

Workshop Outcomes

During the workshop, participants:

• Enhanced their empathic communication skills in digital platforms
• Learned methods for more conscious communication in social media
• Strengthened their ability to view issues from different perspectives
• Gained awareness about values and ethics in the digital world

Future Activities As part of our ongoing project, we will be organizing: 

“Values in the Digital World” workshop at Inonu University 

“Digitalent Social Media Usage” workshop at Batman University in the coming months. 

We extend our gratitude to Siirt University for hosting our workshop, to the academics from Batman University for their valuable contributions, and to all participants for their engagement. 

This project represents a significant step toward developing digital empathy skills among young people and establishing youth policy regarding digital communication. The interactive nature of the workshop provided participants with practical tools for navigating the digital landscape more empathetically. The workshop’s success demonstrates the importance of fostering digital empathy in today’s increasingly connected world. We look forward to continuing this important work in our upcoming workshops.
